Rick Alvin Schrock, 68, passed from this life at his home in Kiowa, Kansas, on April 22, 2023. He was born on January 7, 1955, at the Kiowa District Hospital to Raymond Lee and Maxine Meyer Schrock.
Rick graduated from Kiowa High School where he had a multitude of lifelong friends. He married the love of his life, Janice Lynn Wiedman, on May 15, 1976, at the Congregational Church in Kiowa. Rick attended two years at Northwestern State University in Alva, and then came back to Kiowa, Kansas, to join Vogel Plumbing. After several years he joined his dad and brother in Schrock Cattle Company. When Rick began farming on his own, Jan joined him in their adventure. They farmed together side by side for many, many years. Rick loved farming and was successful in their operation and enjoyed experimenting with different crops.
Rick and Jan enjoyed traveling together and planned to do more after they retired from farming, but due to Rick’s declining health, they were unable to do so.
Rick enjoyed visiting with his classmates and drinking buddies. His quick wit and mischievous smile made him a fun guy to be around. He had a big heart and loved to walk with his two rescue labs.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Maxine Schrock.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Schrock of Kiowa, Kansas; his brother, Steven Schrock and wife, Susan of Alva, and their two children, Kelly (Julia) and Andrea (Jon); his sister-in-law, Jill Howard and husband, Deon of Attica, Kansas, and their two sons, Devon and Ethan; his brother-in-law, Mike Wiedman of Longdale, and his daughter, Johnnie; a host of loving cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial service for Rick will be held at Riverview Cemetery near Kiowa, Kansas, at 2 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2023. The family requests casual dress. Further visitation will be at The Plum Thicket in Kiowa, Kansas.
