Juanita Marie (Sober) Schmidt
March 5, 1926 ~ March 8, 2022

Juanita Schmidt, 96 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2022 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Ronnie Hopkins officiating. A private family burial will be held .

Juanita Marie (Sober) Schmidt was born on March 5, 1926 in Vici, Oklahoma to Charles Seymour and Leona May (Rohman) Sober. At the age of four, the family moved from Vici to Shattuck where Juanita attended school. She graduated from Shattuck High School in 1944. After her graduation, Juanita went to San Diego, California and worked at Consolidated Aircraft until word was received that her brother, Kenneth W. Sober was missing in action during World War II. She moved back to Shattuck to be with her parents and started working for Ideal Food Store.

She was united in marriage to Merlin "Flip" Schmidt on May 29, 1947 in Ashland, Kansas. They were blessed with one son, Ken who was born on July 4, 1948. They made their first home in Shattuck and later moved to Pampa, Texas before moving back to Shattuck and then to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1958. Juanita continued working at Ideal Food Store until her retirement in 1998.

She was a long time member of the First Christian Church and her church and volunteer work were very important in her life. Juanita taught Sunday School for 48 years, served as Elder and Treasurer and was always providing support for all the patrons of the church. She was a charter member of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary in 1974 and continued volunteering at the hospital. Juanita also loved taking pride in her yard, she loved doing yard work.

Survivors include her son Kenneth R. Schmidt and wife Nancy; two grandchildren: Staci Ewing and husband Doug, Stephanie Fuhrman and husband Herb; other relatives and many friends.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leona Sober, her brother Kenneth Walter Sober who was missing in action in World War II, and her husband Flip Schmidt on January 26, 2000.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Alliance Health Ladies
