Celebration of Life service of Mary Schiffner, 89, of Lahoma, Okla., will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bill Smith officiating. A private family burial will follow at a later date. Service is under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Mary passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, at St. Mary�s Regional Medical Center, after a long fight, following a stroke. She was born Mary Louise Clarke on April 6, 1925, in Alfalfa County, Okla., near Aline to Bert and Maude Clarke.
She attended school in Carmen and Cherokee, Okla., where she was in the class of 1943.
She married Alvin Schiffner in 1944 (while he was home on leave during WWII). Two children were born to Mary and Alvin, Steve Schiffner of Oklahoma City and Donna Biggers of Lahoma.
Alvin and Mary made their home in Cherokee, where she lived and worked, starting at the JCPenny store. She later was the tag agent for Alfalfa County for many years.
Mary stayed in Cherokee until the death of Alvin in 1969. She then moved to the Enid and the Lahoma area in 1970.
Mary was well known and much beloved in the Lahoma community, where she had been a business woman, owning and operating Mary�s Mobile Homes and Mary�s RV�s for more than 30 years. For many years, Mary was the city of Lahoma�s secretary and office manager.
Mary was proud to be a part of the Lahoma community, where she was the driving force behind the creation of Meals on Wheels program. She also organized the first Senior Citizens group in Lahoma.
Mary was preceded in death by the love of her life, Alvin Schiffner, her parents, two brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
Mary is survived by her son, Steve Schiffner and wife Marilyn; daughter, Donna and husband Mike Biggers; four grandchildren, Keith and Barbara Schiffner of Cut Bank, Mont., Jennifer and Derek Green of Perkins, Okla., Justin and Jennifer Biggers of Enid, Micah and Eric McCarley of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepgranddaughters, Joy Henard of Texarkana, Texas, and Amy Coleman of Nashville, Tenn. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Leona Nelson of Kingman, Kan.; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and friends who loved her and will miss her.
Memorials may be made to the Chisholm Foundation, with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
