Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., July 15th, at Autumn Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, 4030 Wible Rd., for H. Wendell Scarberry, 82, who passed away at home with his family by his side on July 13th. Dr. L. Wayne Quinn will officiate.
Wendell was born October 5, 1921 in Oklahoma City, OK. He served during WW II as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force and was a Tail Gunner/Engineer on B-25 bombers. He was stationed in North Africa, Italy and Corsica.
Wendell became a CPA in 1958 and built up a thriving practice, which he sold in 1970. Then in 1971 he became the Assistant County Treasurer for Kern County until he retired 10 years later. After retirement he continued to work part-time in private practice as an accountant and financial advisor. He was active in several local churches, including the First Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Wendell was married for 52 years to Lola Scarberry, who passed away August 29, 1998. He married Frances Mansell July 26, 2002.
Survivors include his loving wife, Frances and family: sons, Dan and wife, Veronica, Mark and wife, Suzanne, Frederick and wife, Terri; daughter, Patricia Barlow and husband, Ron; sister, Virginia Wiley; stepdaughter, Shirley Nord and husband, Morris; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; 2 stepgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Autumn Oaks Funeral Home, 4030 Wible Rd.
