Thank You For Your Service!

Donald Phillip Savage

Donald Phillip Savage
Sept. 27, 1935 ~ June 2, 2014

ENID, Okla. - Celebration of Life service for a life well lived will be held for Donald Phillip Savage, 78, of Bison, Okla., at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Waukomis United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Known as "Savage" by all who knew him, he was born on Sept. 27, 1935, in Chickasha, Okla., to Milton and Willie "Kate" Freeman Savage and entered his heavenly journey on Monday, June 2, 2014.

Savage lived life to the fullest. His formative years were spent in Minco and Pocasset. He graduated from Pocasset High School, where he was a hot shot baseball player, hitting home runs "over the fence and into the road."

On Jan. 22, 1954, Savage married his bride, Etta Carolyn Lindsey, who he affectionately called "Hussy." They continued their romance for the next 60 years and 6 months.

Savage was known to give nicknames to friends, family and foe. His union with Carolyn produced three children: Scott "Hoot", Kim Jaunell "Bump" and Jeff "Snipe".

Savage served our country by joining the Oklahoma National Guard in 1954 and later the U.S. Army Reserve. He received an honorable discharge in April 1962.

He served the state of Oklahoma as an Oklahoma Highway patrolman from April 1964, until his retirement in June 1984. As a highway patrolman, he was stationed in Western Oklahoma, but rumor and stories have it that his patrol car was seen in the Texas Panhandle and Kansas. He completed the last 10 years of his work life as a safety director for various trucking companies. This service to his work and country were very important to him as he prayed for the leaders of our country daily.

Savage was active in his community, serving as a 50-year pin member, 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Red Red Rose, Oklahoma state Troopers Association, Northwest Law Association, and 5 State Peace Officers Association, serving two times as vice president.

Savage's pride and joy was his family. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, who adored their Grampa. He always had a willing ear to listen and a great story to share with them when they were together.

He enjoyed being involved with their various interests, such as hunting, fishing, dancing and listening to stories and jokes over coffee. His love of life and how to live it was passed on from him to them through many gatherings around the kitchen table. Grampa taught his grandchildren valuable lessons to live a life worthy for Him. He taught them prayer around the dinner table and a strong faith to carry them through. He was also a "favorite" uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Savage joined his parents, two brothers and three sisters in heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three children, Scott and wife Kimberly of Waukomis, K.J. of Bison, and Jeff and wife Sharalee of Owasso; four grandchildren, Kara, John, Phil and wife Ashley, and Micah and husband Travis; one great-grandchild, Myriah; and one brother, Bill and wife Pat.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love, OMRF, or Waukomis United Methodist Church.
