Arthur Leroy "Art" Saunders

December 21, 1938 ~ December 25, 2008

Arthur "Art" Leroy Saunders, "Jack" to his family, passed away unexpectedly on Christmas afternoon 2008, at the age of 70. He was born in Canon City, CO on December 21, 1938 to Archie W. and Amy (Blodgett) Saunders.

Art worked as a road construction superintendent until his retirement. Prior to that, he was a law enforcement officer with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department, the Guthrie Police Department, and the Logan County Sheriff�s department. Before his death, Art taught the Concealed Weapons Permit classes for several years in Guthrie, OK.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia Ann, his brothers Floyd Dean and Donald Gene and beloved companion, Norman, his Springer Spaniel.

Art is survived by his wife, Sue Saunders; son, Jack Saunders; daughter, Lynn Christopher and grandchildren, Jon and Sara; step-daughters, Rachel Burns and husband Tim, Becky Anderson, and Sarah Burke and husband Ammid and their children; brother, Howard Lee; sisters, Judy Carol and Joyce Kaye; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2009 at Noble Avenue Baptist Church, Guthrie. Arrangements were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
