On June 16, 2020, Casey Satterlee passed away while exemplifying his all-time favorite superhero Batman, by protecting his children and rescuing his youngest son. Even in his final moments, Casey showed the depth of his love and protection for his family by telling his son that he loved them all. This was the true spirit of Casey Satterlee. He will be remembered as a caring man who had a passion for teaching and making an impact through education. He believed so strongly in the importance of education that he ran for office in order to improve education at the Oklahoma state level. He did not remain silent. He stood up for what he believed in and offered a voice to be heard, to strive for change, and to make a difference.
Casey was born in Oklahoma City on February 15, 1978 to Philip (Phil) Satterlee, Jr. and Janice (Payton) Satterlee. He married his precious bride, Lisa, on July 8, 2006 in Norman, OK, with Dan Barrick officiating. They were blessed in their marriage with two sons, Lewis on January 15, 2009, and Ayden on June 11, 2012.
Growing up, he attended Edmond Public Schools graduating from Edmond North in 1997. He completed his Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2002 and began his teaching career in Broken Arrow, OK teaching 7th grade Math. In 2008, Casey and Lisa moved to Edmond, OK where he taught upper Math and Science at Bishop John Carroll Cathedral School in Oklahoma City. He then taught 7th and 8th grade Math at Capps Middle School, and later moved to high school math at Putnam City North High School. He was greatly loved by his students, their families, and his fellow colleagues.
Casey is preceded in death by his parents Janice Lynell (Payton) Satterlee and Phillip (Phil) Dwayne Satterlee Jr.; in-laws Bobby Lewis and Florence (Brown) Holmes; grandparents Kenneth Payton, Curtis Campbell, Philip Satterlee, Sr., and Vay (Kilfoy) Satterlee; uncle Steven Payton; and cousins Oscar Lee Johnson, David Satterlee, and Brent Satterlee.
Survivors include his wife Lisa Ann (Lewis) Satterlee; sons Philip Lewis Satterlee and Ayden Mitchell Satterlee, all of the home in Edmond, OK; Granny Mary (Oleta-Payton) Campbell of Moore, OK; brother Dillon Timbrook of Welston, OK; and sister Korey Thomas and husband Daniel of Hawaii; uncle Jimmy Satterlee of Dallas, TX; uncle Johnny Satterlee and wife Susan of Edmond, OK; aunt Cheryl (Payton) Johnson and husband Oscar of Oklahoma City, OK; aunt Sue (Payton) Bunch and husband Chris of Olathe, CO; long-time best friend Peter John Stephen Smith of Mustang, OK; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22, 2020, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with a Formal Visitation with the family present from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM the same night.
Services for Casey will be held on June 23, 2020 at 2 pm at the Life Church OKC campus located NW 178th St. & Penn in Edmond, OK, officiated by Dan Barrick. At the request of the family please wear something of OSU or Superhero to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, two memorial funds have been set up to collect funds to show love and support for Casey’s family. Donations may be made to the GoFundMe under “Casey Satterlee Memorial Fund” or to the “Casey Satterlee Family Memorial Fund” at any RCB bank branch.
