Ford K. Sankey, age 54, of Cyril passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
If you ask two little boys who Ford Sankey was, they probably could not tell you. If you asked who their papa was, they would say that their papa was the tallest man in the world, he wrestled bigfoot, he had bull riding buckles that he was going to show us one day and he flew big fighter jets. They would say everywhere papa went they went. When it was bedtime, papa always had a story to tell. Papa had a lot of money for slushy drinks and chips and candy. Ford was a kind and humble man who cherished his family. Born May 5, 1966 to Floyd and Ursula Wallowing-Bull Sankey at Clinton Indian Hospital. He grew up in Canton, OK and spent summers in the mountains of Wyoming during his tribe’s Sundance, as Ford is a full blood Northern Arapaho.
Ford was an avid OU fan who enjoyed watching the games mostly by himself as his choice of words was not for children’s ears. He also loved to spend time with his family doing things such as hiking, having cookouts, and other outside activities.
Ford loved his Kiowa family as well; he was a member of Mt. Scott Kiowa United Methodist Church. When he would outsmart his family, he would say “It’s a good thing I’m Kiowa.” Ford was proud of his Kiowa people, as he said they never made him feel like an outsider. He loved how they welcomed him and called him son. Ford was married to his love Thomasine KaudleKaule Sankey and survived by his children Clayton Sankey, Ethete, WY. Ford II and Alexander Sankey of the home. ThomasAnn and her husband Allen Boyd of the home, Joanna Sankey, Duncan, OK, Scarlett Rose, Tulsa, OK. Grandchildren: Inman “Michelangelo” and Thomas “Chucky” Boyd, of the home, Allena “Choo-Choo” Boyd of Meers, Oklahoma and Amelia Rose of Tulsa, OK. Mom: Laverne White of Ethete, WY. Brothers: Garen Sankey, Ethete, WY, Chubby and Scott Sankey of Canton, OK. Sisters: Dr. Aldora White Eagle of Lander, WY, Hattie White of Ethete, WY, Annette Bober of OKC, OK. Danette Hook of Canton, OK. Uncle Nelson White, Ethete, WY. Along with many nieces and nephews, whom he loved all deeply. Ford is welcomed into Heaven by his loved ones who have passed on before him such as his brothers Bryan, Robert, Bob, Crawford, Diego, and Kacey Sankey, Tony Swimmer, and Wesley Le Garde. His sisters Angie, Alondra, Corliss, and Lorenda Sankey, and a nephew Garen “Beesch” Sankey, and Uncle Alonzo Sankey.
We were all touched by Ford’s presence in the same way. Ford never said goodbye, instead he would say “See you later,” he shared numerous laughs and silly times with his grandchildren. Ford was loved and will continue to be loved. Ford will always have a special place in our hearts and thoughts. Until we see you again.
During the services, we will follow CDC guidelines such as social distancing and face masks will be mandatory.
