Rickey Dewayne Sanders, Sr., 66, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this life Friday, February 19, 2021 in Shawnee.
He was born on October 24, 1954 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to R.L. Sanders and Joyce May Bray.
Rickey attended Shawnee Public Schools and completed his education in Modesto, California.
He was employed with Pacific Bell in Modesto, California and Southwestern Bell in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He worked for various car dealerships where he was a car salesman until illness fell upon him.
Rickey enjoyed fishing, barbecuing and gathering with his family. He was reared worshipping God and active in church duties. He lived a Christian life and he loved praising God and singing various songs. Rickey was an advocate for the community and friend to the court. He also worked with the NAACP and various community organizations. His community meant a great deal to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; 3 brothers; 2 uncles; and 2 aunts.
Rick met the love of his life (Baby) JoAnn and they were married. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, JoAnn Sanders of the home; his sidekick (granddaughter) Taylor O. Henderson; one daughter, Tamara Sanders and Joseph Malek of Sunnyvale, CA; two Sons, Rickey D. Sanders, Jr. of Killeen, TX and Andrae R. Sanders of San Francisco, CA; one step-son, Randall Henderson of Shawnee, OK; 8 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 3 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, LaRuth Davis of Shawnee, OK; one aunt, Gloria York of Shawnee, OK; one brother, Robert L. Sanders of San Diego, CA; and a host of cousins, other extended family; and many many friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2021 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 26, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Michael Harris officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
