The memorial service celebrating the life of John Mark Sanders, 58, of Enid will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 26, 2017 in the Brown-Cummings Funeral Chapel with Rev. Debbie Smith officiating. Complete cremation care and services have been entrusted to Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
John was born to Louis and Zoe Jacobs Sanders on July 23, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 children. John lived at what was then the Enid State School from the age of 9 until he was an adult and received a G.E.D. there. In 2010 he received an associate's degree from Northern Oklahoma College in criminal justice.
John came to know Jesus Christ through his church family at First Presbyterian Church in Enid where he served as a deacon. For many years he served as a leader in the church's Saturday Manna program feeding hungry people. He was among the founding members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in 2011 and remained so until his death. He served his church in many capacities. John volunteered at the American Red Cross from January 2002 until his death.
He lead a multi-layered life and touched many people with his generosity and acts of service. John had little in material wealth but freely gave whatever he had to anyone in need.
John was preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings. He is survived by his sister, Linda; his friend and roommate, Mike Jaide; his god-daughter Zoe of whom he was so proud; his beloved neighbors; his church family and many friends.
John will be greatly missed by all of his friends and his absence will be felt every Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was deeply loved and appreciated by those who knew him.
