Marion Joyce Talley Sampson, 85, was born April 10, 1935 to J.W. “Paige” and Mary Talley in Laverty, OK in the home. She had two older sisters, Lois and Letha. Growing up in the Pioneer School District, she was a good athlete, excelling in basketball and softball as well as her studies. Known as “Babe” to her father, she helped him with the watermelons and cotton they grew. At Pioneer High School, Marion met her future husband, Richard Sampson. After high school, she attended Oklahoma College for Women and earned her degree in education/home economics.
After graduation, Marion and Richard married on February 2, 1957. During their early years of marriage, they lived in many different states, traveling with Richard’s jobs. They were blessed with three children, Scott, Krista and Keith. Marion had a successful career in education, teaching in Putnam City Schools for 37 years. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and for many years, she enjoyed being a part of her teacher’s Bunco group. Marion and Richard have been members of First Baptist Church of Bethany for 45 years. Marion was a very devout believer in Jesus Christ and strong in her faith. After retiring, she and Richard enjoyed traveling with friends and spending time with their grandkids.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Lois Martin and Letha Patterson. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard; children, Scott Sampson, Krista Blood and husband, Glenn, and Keith Sampson; grandchildren, Caleb and Tamara Elrod; Colton Elrod and family, Dylan Sampson, Brad and Melissa Blood and family, Brian and Sarah Blood and family; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Saturday, August 8, 11:00am at Bethany First Baptist Church.
