Alice Leona (Booth) Russell

Alice Leona (Booth) Russell
June 22, 1914 ~ June 12, 2018

Alice Leona Russell, 103, formerly of Blanchard, Oklahoma and Liberal, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Oklahoma City. The daughter of Jesse Owen Booth and Alice Leona (LeMonier) Booth, she was born June 22, 1914 in Clarks, Nebraska.

She married Kelley Russell, Jr. and he preceded her in death in 1986. Leona was a doctor-trained nurse, making house calls and delivering babies at home. She then worked in a doctor's office and later with home healthcare. She also spent countless hours, working alongside her husband on their thousand-acre ranch, driving farm machinery, delivering calves, fixing fence, and anything else that needed to be done.

Leona was a member of the Daughters of Rebekah Lodge, Extension Homemakers, Liberal Trail Riders, Tuttle Roundup Club, and participated in the quilting group and dance troupe with the Blanchard Senior Citizens. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, quilting, and knitting. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kelley Russell, Jr.; two sisters, Florence Everly and Evelyn Raybourn; and four brothers, Pat, Floyd, K.S., and Dennis Booth.

Leona is survived by two daughters, Jan Southern of Houston, Texas and Ann Wolfe of Blanchard; four grandchildren, Shawn Wolfe and his wife, Carla, of Lexington, Shannon Wolfe of El Reno, Marty Hatcher and his wife, Brynda, of Tulsa, and Brandon Hatcher and his wife, Sandy, of Katy, Texas; four great grandchildren, Wynter Hatcher, Kennedy Hatcher, Ryan Hatcher, and Dillon Hatcher; special niece, Leona Day and her husband, Johnny, of Alvarado, Texas; several other nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard.

Graveside funeral and burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 21, 2018, in the Liberal City Cemetery in Liberal, Kansas under the direction of Miller Mortuary.

The family would like to thank Harmony Healthcare and Integris Hospice for their exceptional care.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
