Winston Carl Rose, 79, of Tuttle, Oklahoma, went to be with his Savior on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at his home. The youngest child of William C “Clyde” Rose and Parlee Rena (Walls) Rose, Winston was born on October 5, 1944, in Okemah, Oklahoma.
Winston grew up in Okemah on the family farm and graduated from Mason High School. After graduating high school at seventeen, he joined the Navy in 1962 where he served on the USS Saratoga (CV-60) and USS Los Angeles (CA-135). After his service in the Navy, Winston attended and graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, OK. It was during this time that he met his wife, Lavanda Ruth Reynolds, and the two were married and lived in Tulsa, OK. Winston was hired on at FAA Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center as an aircraft mechanic and later as inspector. Winston and Lavanda moved to Tuttle in 1976 and welcomed their third son.
In 2000, he retired after 34 years with the government at age fifty-four. Winston served his church, the Freewill Baptist Church in Newcastle, in many roles but most notably as custodian and fixer of all things after retiring. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time traveling with Lavanda in their RV to numerous Bluegrass festivals and loved their adventures with the Silver Saints Senior group at church. He was the go-to guy his sons consulted on every project and could often be found teaching them electrical wiring, welding, construction and mechanics. He loved his tractors, four wheelers and tools and loved putting them all to work on their farm outside of Ada, OK.
He loved his Colorado fishing trips with the men’s group where he, Carl and Shawn enjoyed jeeping and fishing together. He had a passion for anything Navy related and had a love for WW2 documentaries and movies. He loved spending time with his three boys, three daughters-in-law, six granddaughters and two grandsons. Though he was known for his quietness, his warm smile and gentle nature will be most remembered. He leaves a lasting legacy in his family and friends.
Winston is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dillard Rose and wife Elizabeth; sister, Mildred Anderson and husband Fred; brother-in-law Lewis Reynolds; and sister-in-law June Rose.
Winston is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lavanda Ruth Rose of Tuttle; three sons, Michael Rose and wife Julie of Corinth, TX; Carl Rose and wife Jalynn of Newcastle, OK; Shawn Rose and wife Heather of Newcastle, OK; his brother Roger Rose and wife Vivian of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law Wendell Reynolds and wife Mary of Allen, OK; sister-in-law Kelly Reynolds of Allen, OK; grandchildren, Annie Carrell and husband Zach, Lindi Rose, John Michael Rose, Bella Waitman, Lily Rose, Kaitlyn Rose, Carlee Rose and Wyatt Rose along with several nieces, nephews, and loving family members.
