Richard Ernest "Dick" Romine

RICHARD ERNEST HORSPOOL ROMINE 9/1/41-5/30/24

The "Party in Heaven" kicked up a notch when Dick Romine arrived on May 30, 2024.

Richard "Dick" Romine was born in Oakland California on September 1, 1941, to Ernest and Margaret Romine. Dick was the first born of his siblings, Charlie, Laurie, Billy, and Lars, who all looked up to their big brother. They fondly remember him as their "hero" at Twain Harte as the summertime lifeguard. The family moved to Walnut Creek, CA while Dick attended San Jose State where he was the starting forward for the basketball team. Standing at 6'4", Dick dominated on (and off) the court.

Upon his graduation, Dick served as a policeman for the City of San Jose for two years. He then became a stockbroker in San Francisco for Eastman-Dillon, and broadcasted the daily stock report on KFRC where he was known as "The Golden Voice of the Financial West". In his prime, Dick was named "San Francisco's Most Eligible Bachelor", to no one's surprise. Dick was a man of many talents. His next venture, drilling oil wells, brought him to Oklahoma in the 1980's. For many years he enjoyed success in the oil business. In the mid 2000's he received his pilot's license, purchased an airplane and flew as a hobby.

Dick's zest for life was contagious. His energy and personality commanded each room he entered, leaving a mark on those he met would not soon forget. He always left you with a smile and the reminder to laugh and enjoy each day we are given. Whether he was hosting Dick's coffee & gym in the mornings at his home, on a trip overseas, or if Sadie dog and he were chatting with friends on Saturdays at "The Fe" he was always the life of the party and just so much fun. When there was a vacation being planned, he was always the first to sign up whether it be a trip to Europe, Israel, or a Cruise. On one memorable cruise, the ship went bankrupt which forced its passengers to stay at sea several additional days, but he kept the fun going. He entertained everyone with his funny stories-most popular was the story about his first night on solo patrol when he was a San Jose police officer. He always had the room in stitches when sharing it. Sporting authentic handcuffs and badge, Dick was also a Contra County, California Reserve Deputy Sheriff.

He was an incredible home chef. His beef stir fry, Thanksgiving turkey and dressing and lime Jello were some of his specialties. He also loved to cook his mom's Swedish recipes and share them with family and friends.

Dick was one of the best purple Martin landlords in the country and even inspired his neighbors to put up Purple Martin homes. He taught us all about them, and we loved to watch the birds turn in for the night over happy hour in the evenings.

Dick was an avid golfer who loved golfing and snow skiing with his friends.

Although not a blood relative to the Hanks/Kathey family, Dick has been a part of our family for 30 years. He has been a part of every major life event, both the celebrations and the challenges. He always offered great advice and was consistently there lending a helping hand.

He is survived by his sister Laurie Oswald, his brothers Billy and Lars Romine, his numerous nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Dick and his beloved dog Sadie.

We miss you "Ricardo Grande". Keep that party in Heaven going until we see you again. We love you.

Celebration of Life: Thursday August 22, 2024, All are invited 405.273.1763 Shawnee Country Club 3PM-5PM 2501 Agusta Drive Shawnee, OK 74801
