Charolit Marie (Starrett) Roe passed from this life on Monday, August 3, 2020, at her home in Cleveland. She was 72 years of age. Charolit was born May 26, 1948 in Cleveland to Charles Wesley and Bonnie Aleane (Robinson) Starrett. She was raised and received her education in Cleveland, graduating with the class of 1966. Later that year she was united in marriage to Bill Ingalls and they had one son, Charles Wesley Ingalls. That marriage did not last. On March 26, 1974, Charolit married John Wesley Roe in Perry, OK. They made their home in the Blackburn – Skeedee area for the next 23 years. She became a step-mother to Johnny’s children, and helped raise other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She said that her life really began when she had grandchildren. She became “Grandma Charolit” to so many children over the years, loving all of them as if they were her own.
Charolit worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Pawnee County Sheriff. She enjoyed her job there, saying that all she wanted to do is help others that are often at the worst place in their lives. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and making afghans and Barbie clothes for her grandchildren. Charolit was an avid reader, a love that she passed to many of her family members. The biggest priority in her life was family and her Lord Jesus Christ.
The love of her life, Johnny, died suddenly in January 2003. She then moved from Pawnee to Cleveland. Her son Charlie passed away in 2011, while working on the road, and Charolit felt that so much of the light of her life had been extinguished.
Surviving are her three step-children: Amy Funkhouser and husband Keith of Pawnee, John Roe and wife Jennifer of Muskogee and Ben Roe and wife Terena of Cleveland. Also surviving are her grandchildren – Lauryn Funkhouser, Torie Funkhouser Sayre and husband Michal, Katsy Funkhouser Osburn and husband Lance, Roe Funkhouser, Jordyn Roe Woodward and husband Rob, Bailey Roe Chance and husband Seth, Lexi Roe and Gracie Roe; honorary grandchildren Jessica, Brett, and Kaitlyn Dixon, and one great grandchild Ellie Osburn. Also, her cousin and caregiver of the home, Teresa Greene-Dickey, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Charolit was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, three brothers Roy, Phillip and Robert, her love Johnny, and son Charlie.
The family is planning a private memorial service to be held in September. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Cleveland, OK.
