Phylis M. (Spriggs) Rizzo

Phylis M. (Spriggs) Rizzo
October 31, 1939 ~ September 21, 2021

Bartlesville - Phylis was born in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Judge Leo and Mamie Ellen Guerin Spriggs on October 31, 1939. She went home to heaven on September 21, 2021. When she was ten years old, she accepted Jesus Christ into her life which insured she would return home when her time on earth ended.

She joined First Baptist Church in Wagoner where she first met Don Rizzo. They dated through high school, both graduated from Wagoner High School in 1957, and married on September 28, 1957.

She has been a member of Bartlesville First Baptist Church since 1970. She answered Jesus's call to be His hands and feet by serving as a Sunday School teacher, department director, working in women's ministry, leading Bible Study, and singing in the choir. Most recently she joined the Young Married Sunday School Department where she was welcomed with opened arms and was the records keeper.

She also answered Jesus's call when she worked for the City Clerk in Wagoner, then at Montgomery Wards in Kansas City and Bartlesville. Her giftedness was most apparent when she pursued a career in nursing. She received her Practical Nursing degree from Tri-County Tech in 1973. She was a practicing LPN for many years including working at both Memorial and Jane Phillips Hospitals in Bartlesville, working as a private duty nurse, then as nurse and office manager for Dr. William Carter, whom she called "The BOSS," for ten years. After retiring from nursing, she was a consultant with BeautiControl Cosmetics for several years. She also filled her retirement years serving her community with Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief and Hope Clinic.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Don Rizzo, her children, Rob Rizzo and his wife, Dana, and Rhonda Rizzo Webb. Her grandchildren, Sarah Rizzo Roark and her husband, David, Tristen Rizzo Swengle and her husband Jared, Alex Rizzo and his wife, Sierra, Jimmy Webb III, and Scout Lee Webb. And her great grand-children, Abigail, Asher, Adin, and Adahlyn Roark. She was known to slide down the slide with her great-grandchildren up until her last days. She was adored by her family and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Judge Leo and Mamie Spriggs, her brothers—Andy, Willie, Roy, and Charlie Spriggs; her sisters – Willie Lee Smith and Florence Fuller, and her granddaughter, Rachel Renee Rizzo.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory. Celebration services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate in Phylis's honor to Hope Clinic, Bartlesville First Baptist Church Building Fund, or Oklahoma Baptist Children's Home.
