Elaine "Lonnie" (Timme) Ring

October 14, 1944 ~ October 20, 2020

Elaine "Lonnie" Timme Ring finished her earthly journey on Oct. 20 after two months in hospice care. She was born in New York City on Oct. 14, 1944. The oldest of five children, Lonnie grew up in White Plains, N.Y., enjoying sports, especially field hockey, going to camp in the summers and traveling internationally. She attended Wooster College and New York University where she earned a degree in elementary education.

After college, Lonnie worked for Aetna Insurance company in Hartford, Conn., where she met her husband William "Bill" Ring Jr. After marrying Bill in 1971, Lonnie left Aetna. She and Bill moved to Edina, Minn., where both their daughters were born.

After several years in Edina, the couple moved to Enid, Okla., where they had purchased a moving and storage company. Lonnie helped out with the bookkeeping for the company and volunteered at her daughters' school; later taking a job at a local trucking company.

After their daughters graduated from high school, Bill and Lonnie moved to Oklahoma City where Lonnie worked for a bank and later for the owner of several Sonic franchises. Several years ago she moved to Birmingham, Ala., to be closer to her daughter Allison.

In her adult life, Lonnie enjoyed cross stitch, knitting, sewing, volunteering, taking walks, singing in church choirs and spending time with family. She was a faithful blood and later platelet donor. No one was better at packing a suitcase or a box or getting the last contents out of a jar or bottle than she was. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, very patient and always willing to read a book, play outside, bake, play games or do puzzles with her children and grandchildren. We will miss her gentleness and kindness immensely.

Lonnie was preceded in death by her parents, younger brother Jon Belcher-Timme, sister-in-law Ruth Timme and husband Bill.

She is survived by siblings Karen Schwalm (David), Fred Timme, Richard Timme (Leslie), and sister-in-law Barbara Belcher-Timme and numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally she is survived by her daughter Allison Wear (Shane), daughter Heather Mundy (Camper) and grandchildren Salem, Tess, Hope, Ty and Mercy.

A family memorial service will be planned for summer 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canterbury Methodist Church (Encore program) 350 Overbrook Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35213, or her home church, Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, AL 35209.
