Evelyn Jeanette "Tippy" (Pruitt) Rigdon

Evelyn Jeanette "Tippy" (Pruitt) Rigdon
Nov 19, 1928 ~ May 22, 2013

Our beautiful Mama stepped out today (May 22, 2013) for the final time here on earth. She left with the same dignity and grace that she always walked in, just as we knew she would. We just didn’t know it would be today. Her family surrounded her as we wept, laughed, and wondered at the amazing woman that we knew and will always love. We celebrate her freedom from earth’s pain, bondages and worries. And we are all better persons for having had her love us

Evelyn Jeanette Pruitt was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Forney, Ala., to Tommie and Hazel Pruitt

She grew up on Black Bluff Road in Rome, Ga., with her parents, brother, sisters and a slew of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews

Evelyn was know as “Tippy” by family and friends. Her early years included picking cotton with her Mother. She left school at 14, when her father died. She later moved to town, lived with a close friend, worked at a fabric plant and took dancing lessons

She met and married Harold Hutchins and from this union, four children, Lindy, Nancy, Glen and Gary were born

She married Dennis Rigdon May 5, 1970, and they just celebrated 43 years of loving and working together. Dennis’ two children, Dean and Mindy made a seamless entry into the family and Tippy gladly welcomed the challenge of raising and caring for them all. The family grew to include 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren

Tippy and Dennis moved to Lafayette, La., and Dennis worked for Exxon. They later settled in Kaw City, Okla. They became an integral part of that community, as owner/operators of Buffy’s Restaurant, a marina and a motel. They served in other capacities as well, giving of themselves to make their community a better place

Tippy is remembered as an excellent cook, decorator and homemaker. She had a servant’s heart and loved feeding her family and friends, and sharing her many other talents with them. She was an artist whose oil paintings grace the walls of her family. She was a published poet and a lover of music (especially when performed by her children). She also loved nature and that is evident in the many oil paintings she did. She never met a dog she didn’t love. She was always proper, but was very witty and had a great sense of humor

To her husband, family, friends, co-workers and church, she was loyal, faithful and tolerant. She saw the good in everybody and brought out the best in all

Tippy leaves a legacy of caring, of sharing life and of love. She touched all who knew her and will be greatly missed

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 25, 2013, at Grace World Outreach Church, 2502 W. Elm, Enid, OK 73703
