Roy R. Rider, 79, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 after suffering a heart attack earlier in the month. Roy had a lengthy illness prior to the heart attack.
Roy was born on December 4, 1943 in Norman, Oklahoma to the late Marion and Bessie Rider. He attended Tecumseh High School and Oklahoma Baptist University. After working for Don Kelly Construction in Morrilton, Arkansas, Roy began working at Tinker AFB in 1966 and continued until his retirement at the end of 1999. He spent early retirement years working for Earlsboro Water District and the City of Shawnee, getting into mischief with three grandchildren, and spending time with great friends on various projects. In 2020, Roy received his 50th year pin from the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons, Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was active with the Masonic Lodge of Shawnee, Oklahoma until illness intervened. He also served as Deacon of three churches. He previously served as a member of the Tecumseh Board of Education, as well as the Selective Service. Over the years he had a small farm, rebuilt cars, had an electronic business, fished, hunted, golfed and rode motorcycles for fun. His love for flying resulted in obtaining his pilot’s license. His shop-building was his kingdom. Roy was the person so may came to for advice and guidance with which he gave freely. His words you could trust, his advice you could follow, and his guidance steered many of over the years.
Roy met and married Glenda Lott of Harjo, Oklahoma in 1962. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The two became parents to a daughter, Terese Diane. The three of them lived a great life with many adventures in Morrilton, Arkansas, Norman, Oklahoma, Shawnee, Oklahoma and Tecumseh, Oklahoma.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Robert Rider, Richard Rider, Raymond Rider and Ray Rider; sisters-in-laws; nieces and nephews.
