Jerry Rice, 66 year old Woodward resident passed away from complications with dementia, Friday, July 21, 2023 in Enid, Oklahoma. Jerry was surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 1:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Woodward with everyone invited to join a celebration of life to follow at Sheri's new homestead. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Jerry Lee Rice was born April 17, 1957 to Oscar Alexander and Esther Louise (Boelling) Rice in Joliet, Illinois. Jerry grew up in Joliet and graduated from Joliet East High School. He then attended Junior College. He was united into marriage to Sherri Fox in Centerville, Iowa on April 27, 1995. The couple made their home in Des Moines, Iowa, Kansas City, Missouri and Edwardsville, Kansas before settling in Woodward, Oklahoma.
Jerry enjoyed reading about World War II history and ship wrecks, volunteering with Project Gutenberg by proofreading through Distributed Proofreaders. He proofread and formatted nearly 60,000 pages. His contribution has helped over 2,500 ebooks become available to Project Gutenberg. Spending time with his animals and family is what brought him the most joy.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sheri Rice of the home; one son, Justin Rice; two daughters, Emily Rice and Kathyrn Rice; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Esther, one sister Maxine Wallis, daughter Lauren R. Rice.
