A memorial service for Gail Reid, Jr., will be Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at 10:00 A.M., at Eisenhour Funeral Chapel located at 8805 N.E. 23rd Street, Oklahoma City.
Gail was born June 24, 1939, in Blackwell, OK, to Gail Reid and Thelma (Hetrick) Reid and died early Saturday morning, October 2, 2004, at his home in Oklahoma City.
Growing up as a farm boy in Grant and Kay Counties, Gail was a student in rural schools, Deer Creek schools and Blackwell schools. Gail also served in the U.S. Navy. Always artistically talented, Gail designed model cars and model aircraft from his early youth. From popsicle sticks to plastics to metals, Gail produced replicas and created designs.
As a member of the Baxter Flying Field Club, he was actively involved in the production and the flying of radio controlled (RC) airplanes. He also regularly participated in the annual RC Convention in Las Vegas. Whether piloting his own Piper Cub or his on ground radio controlled airplanes, Gail enjoyed his toys. Definitely, Gail's work was his hobby: He used his entrepreneurial talents to collect, refurbish, and customize classic cars. Through this vocation, he served as a mentor to many young people who became his life friends. Gail loved the laughter in life, his family, and his many friends.
He is survived by Sharon Lee Reid, his wife of 27 years. He is also survived by his sons Ricky Reid of Oklahoma City, Monty Reid of San Antonio, TX, Steven Reid of Blackwell, Mitchell Reid of Dewey; and one daughter, Monica Gail Detlefson of Omaha, NE; ten grandchildren and one great grandson. He is also survived by his siblings Neal Reid of Oklahoma City, Jan Williamson of Edmond, and Margy Pezdirtz of Midwest City. Besides his parents, Gail was preceded in death by his son Michael Neal Reid.
