Alva – Floyd D. Readnour, 63, died suddenly Sunday night, September 30, 1984, in an Alva hospital.
Readnour was born April 6, 1921, in Higgins, Texas, the son of Alpha and Charlie Readnour. In 1935, the family came to Alva where he attended the Horace Mann grade and high school.
On August 20, 1942, Readnour entered the United States Army and served two years in Europe during World War II. He returned to Alva after his discharge and on May 24, 1947, he and Vera Mae Haskins were married.
She died October 28, 1961. Following their marriage they lived on a farm north of Nash and in 1957 moved to Hardtner, Kansas, where he worked as custodian for the Hardtner schools. Two years later, they moved to Center Point, Oregon, where he worked for a lumber company.
He returned to Alva in 1961 and had lived here since that time. Readnour worked at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as custodian and activity bus driver. When the Share Convalescent Home opened in 1965 he began work there as custodian, then worked for the Ambulance Service, later working at the high school as custodian and bus driver until his retirement in 1981.
Readnour and Verna Schiffner were married at Alva on April 29, 1970. He was a member of the Alva First Christian Church, member and past President of the Alva Lions Club. He was preceded in death by a grandson.
Survivors are his wife Verna of the home; two daughters, Linda Rodgers of Alva, and Debbie (Mrs. Jeff) Wiggins of Kremlin; a step – daughter, Eva Kay (Mrs. Robert) Grauer of Wilson, Kansas; six grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Jackson and Lola (Mrs. Elmer) Cates and a brother, Maurice Readnour, all of Woodward.
Services will be at 3 PM Wednesday in the First Christian Church with Ray Don Jackson and Ron Pingelton as the officiating ministers. Burial will be in the Hardtner Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Chapel of Alva.
Contribution in Readnour's memory may be made to the Lions Club Eye Bank or to the First Christian Church.
