Born on a farm near Butler, Oklahoma, December 9, 1928, Novalene was the fifth child born to Coleman and Bessy Wood.
A midwife by the name Novalene delivered her.
Novalene was born with some medical concerns and they did not expect her to live more than a year.
She was saved when she was 12 years old at the Baptist Church in Rhea, Oklahoma.
Her family later moved to Leedey, Oklahoma where she graduated high school, and June 8, 1953 she married her childhood friend, Billy W. Ray. They were married in her sister Juanita's home.
At the time of their marriage they were both living in Perryton where Novalene was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Bill was saved in November 1956 and began attending church with his wife.
God blessed this union with two children....Debbie Harmon married to Rev. Max Harmon; and Cleta Salmon married to Randy Salmon.
Novalene had five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was a soul winner and a prayer warrior, often receiving calls for special prayer requests from various people in town.
Cleta often referred to Novalene as her rock. Novalene led Cleta's two children to the Lord as well as Cleta's best friend.
It seemed anytime anyone talked with Novalene the first order of business was to ask if they had knew The Lord as their personal Savior.
She was also known as an avid sports fan even in brief stay at Twin Oaks in Booker, Texas.
For many years she was very active here with The Ladies Mission Prayer Band, and taught many of the current active church members in Sunday School.
She passed from this life into her Lord's presence at 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.
Novalene is survived by two daughters, Debbie and Max Harmon of Amarillo, Texas; and Cleta and Randy Salmon of Perryton, Texas; two brothers, Olen Wood of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Alvin Wood of Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous friends.
