Nellie Mae Ramsey, 92, passed away September 6, 2016 in Guthrie OK. She was born January 26, 1924 in Sterling, KS to Lloyd & Gladys (Selfridge) Horn.
Nellie married Joe Griffin in Kansas on July 20, 1946 making their home in Hutchinson, spending 35 years together. Nellie enjoyed raising animals of all kinds and was an avid gardener. Camping and fishing at Kanopolis Lake were favorite pastimes. Nellie spent her entire working career at Winchester Packing Co. in Hutchinson, retiring after 45 years. She worked in various areas, packing and casing hot dogs which led her to be affectionately known as the "weenie-lady". Nellie married her second husband Olen Ramsey of Nickerson, KS, on December 18, 1986 and they enjoyed her retirement traveling and seeing the country. After the loss of her husband, Nellie later moved to Chandler, OK in the early 1990's to be near her daughter, Billie and son-in-law Marion. Her Granddaughter KaLinda fondly remembers spending weekends driving and seeing the sights in Oklahoma together. Nellie moved to Riverside Plaza in Douglas, WY in 2001 where she renewed her role as "Grandma" not only to her adult granddaughter Angie but also her young great- grandsons Dusty and Jesse. She raised poodles in her younger years and was rarely without a dog in her lap. Her friends in Douglas will remember her and her Pomeranian, Lady Bug, shopping in Safeway. Nellie loved to crochet and even made dog blankets for the animal shelter as long as she could hold a hook.
Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Bob & Lefty, 2 husbands, Joe W. Griffin, and Olen Ramsey, and her daughter Billie Fugger.
She is survived by one brother Elton, San Diego CA; granddaughter, KaLinda (Fugger) Nichols and husband Sean of Oklahoma City, OK; Son-in-law Marion Fugger of Guthrie, OK; granddaughter Angela (Fugger) Lang and husband Ernie of Douglas, WY; 2 great- grand children Dustin Lang and his wife Adrienne of Gibbon, NE; Jesse Lang of Bay City, TX and one great- great grandson Leighton Lang.
