Jerry Don Rackley

Jerry Don Rackley
December 30, 1945 ~ March 04, 2019

Jerry Don Rackley, age 73, of Cache passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 at his residence.

Jerry was born December 30, 1945 in Walters, Oklahoma to Earl Rackley and Betty Jane Dorton Rackley. His family moved to Lawton after his mother's marriage to Herman Higgerson. He attended Tomlinson Jr high school and in his sophomore year, while working for the Lawton Constitution as a newspaper carrier, Jerry received an Honor Carrier Jacket for outstanding service. He also worked the concession at Hankins Drive In, while attending high school. He graduated Cameron Jr College and received his Associates degree in Accounting. After graduation, he went to work for Gibson's Discount Center helping them stock the store and getting ready for them to open for business. After working there for 3 years he then went to work for Comanche Concrete Products as the bookkeeper and office manager. When the business sold he held jobs at Atlas &Tuck Concrete Co., and Fitches, before landing a job at Goodyear in 1981. He worked as a tire builder for 14 years. After a back injury he retired in 1995.

He married the love of his life, Joanne Hite on June 2, 1967. They lived in Lawton until 1978 and moved to Cache with their son and daughter. He bought a small house and had it moved to their property. He set up a 2nd house adjacent to the first one and he joined them two together and a spacious home was built for his family. Before too long, he had built 2 barns, carports and a small shop. And it didn't take long to fill them full of "stuff". He enjoyed being outside working with his hands. He loved going to auctions, working in his shop and tinkering with his vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Rackley; his mother Betty Higgerson; his step grandson, Chad Vanderburgh Rackley; his grandparents, Bill and Betty Dorton and Karl and Margaret Rackley.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Joanne Rackley of Cache; his son, Bill and Marilyn Rackley of Shawnee; his daughter, Heather and Del Laidley of Yukon; his grandsons, Dillan Rackley of Shawnee and Brenden Laidley of Yukon; his granddaughter Natalie Laidley of Yukon; his brother Anthoney and Peggy Rackley of Stephenville, TX; his step granddaughter, Heather Kaase of Meeker; his step grandson, Michael Vanderburgh of Eufaula; and many step grandchildren; and his half-sister, Eva Abernathy of Waterloo, IA. Jerry loved his family, his furry companions, Max, Buddy and Dexter and a dear longtime friend, Rigo Gonzalez. Forever in our hearts....
