Nancy Ann Pulley was born October 1st, 1939, in Eureka Springs Arkansas to Joseph Dalton and Amy May (Baty) O’Meara. She was paving the way from day one, as they announced that she was the first baby to be born at the new hospital. From a young age she was always one that set the pace for her siblings to keep up with. Everyone quickly realized that she was wise beyond her years. She had a natural way of working with animals, which drove her passion for horses and riding. Nancy had an astute passion for art, sewing and reading. While in High school she created a piece that featured a donkey that won her a state art competition. Much to her dismay, the donkey toured the state of Oklahoma while she remained in Blackwell. She often shared with others that she thought it might never come home. In 1957, she graduated from Blackwell High School. She went on to marry Raymond Schmidt just before they made their home in Newkirk and had four children.
Nancy worked at Conoco for 21 years, during this time she worked her way up to being a repair woman. With a tenacious work ethic and great attitude, she paved the way for others. She was an advocate for her coworkers, and a part of the OCAW for many years. She was a natural trail blazer not only at work but also on the trail. She raised, trained and loved Arabian horses. On show days she showed up with many saddles as she expressed her artistic style in every form possible. You often could find her toodling down the road, driving a buggy while training, or on the trails with others. Through the year she made many friends and cherished everyone. She was looking forward to her ride through the gates of heaven on her beloved Arabian stallion, Refka.
Regardless of the time of day or circumstance, she cherished visits from her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In February of 2004 Nancy entered the Secular Franciscan Order and discovered that she was a Daughter of the American Revolution.
On January 17th, 2025, she started what would become her final journey on earth. Through this time, she showed us her strength, perseverance, and resilience. On August 17, 2025, she achieved “spiritual perfection” as she transitioned into her place in heaven relieved of all her earthly obstacles. We can only imagine the greeting she received.
She is preceded in death by her parents, as well as, her siblings Pat O’Meara, Jeanie Burns & Karen Geer. Her great grand-daughter Audra Marion. Her nephews Bryan Geer, Darren O’Meara, and Shawn O’Meara.
She is survived by her brother Dan & Kathy O’Meara. Her children Mark & Theresa Schmidt, Sheryl Schmidt, Jody Barkley & Laurie Schmidt. Her bonus kids are Steve/ Cheryl Schmidt, Raymond Schmidt and Anna Woodworth. Her grandchildren Brandy and Travis Morris, Mark Barkley, Meagan and Lawson Green, Chelsea and Mario Pacetti. Her great grandchildren Jordan Marion, Raylee Green, John Lawson Green, Mac Pacetti, Ryder Morris, Trinity Barkley, Hanna Morris and Tommy Barkley. Her four-legged companions K.C, and Zommie. As well as a multitude of other extended family and friends.
A Rosary will be said for Nancy, Thursday, August 21st, 6pm at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 22nd, 10am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Blackwell, OK. Interment will follow at the Caldwell City Cemetery in Caldwell, KS.
