Robert C. Provines

January 31, 1854 ~ September 15, 1943

Robert C. Provines was born January 31, 1854 in Dekalb County, Indiana, and departed this life September 15, 1943 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. A. Schneider, Custer City, Oklahoma, age 89 years, seven months and 15 days.

He was united in marriage to Hester Virginia Carnell in about the year of 1876 and to this union four children were born.

She preceded him in death 62 years ago. He had to be both father and mother to his children.

He and three children came to Oklahoma and settled near Weatherford early in 1901. In 1902 he filed on a homestead six miles northwest of old Rankin, where he farmed until 1919.

Since that time he has lived among his children, making his home with his oldest granddaughter, Mrs. Jim Clay, of Reydon for six years.

He was a very kind man and a friend to all who knew him, and was so patient in his suffering the last few years, never complaining about his pain and trouble.

He leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mary Provines of Auburn, Indiana; four children, Mrs. Estella Schneider of Custer City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Beta Rosenberry of Butler, Indiana; Jas. W. Provines of Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Gertrude Perry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eighteen grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and numerous friends.

The remains were shipped to Indiana for burial.
