Earnest William Prewitt, 83, passed from this life and into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on January 4, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Earnie was born on December 22, 1937, in Seminole, Oklahoma to Solomon Richard Prewitt and Anna (Deer) Prewitt. Earnie was raised in Stroud, Oklahoma and received his education in Stroud as well. While still in his teens, Earnie moved to Osage County where he worked at a service station in Hominy and then in the oil fields as a roustabout in the Hominy and Fairfax area. His work frequently brought him to the Cleveland area where he met Peggy Lucas and they were united in marriage on August 26, 1959 at the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Earnie enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966. Truly a self-made man and inspiration for hard work and integrity, Earnie took a position with Wheatley Pump and Valve in Sand Springs, Oklahoma where through his hard work and determination progressed to a supervisor position.
Earnie had the opportunity in 1978 to change careers and began working for Jack Cooper Transport as a truck driver transporting new automobiles from plant factories to dealerships across the central and eastern United States. Earnie had a strong, honest work ethic and took great pride in any job he had but his true passion was being an auto transporter. In 2007, Earnie retired from Jack Cooper and began enjoying his retirement years.
His career allowed him to see many parts of the country and meet new people and make new friends in every place he went. Earnie was a deeply committed family man and loved spending time with his family. A favorite part of his life was taking family vacations, especially trips to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Missouri, Colorado and Florida. Earnie loved camping and boating on Skiatook Lake with his family. Earnie and his wife Peggy took great pride and joy in their family. Earnie's love of family was evident to everyone who knew him and he was especially proud, generous and loving with all 7 of his grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, making it a point to be a positive influence in their lives. Earnie's faith played a major role in his life and he was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma where he served the body of Christ through acts of service including delivering meals on wheels to area residents and driving the church van to pick up children so they could attend church services.
Survivors include his loving wife Peggy (Lucas) Prewitt of the home, three children Mark Prewitt and his wife Lisa of Boston, Massachusetts, Cathy Ray and her husband Mark Ray of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Holly Prewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers Jerry Prewitt and his wife Joy of Stroud, Oklahoma, Richard Prewitt of Stroud, Oklahoma; one sister Carol Collins and her husband Tom of Blackburn, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Jared, Kinsey, Amanda, Catherine, Allison, Chloe; two great grandchildren Kasen and Rylan and many other loving members of his family. Earnie exhibited kindness and grace to every person he met. His smile and calm, kind demeanor was admired by all and he will be immensely missed by all of his family and friends.
