Edna (Seal) Powers

Edna (Seal) Powers
August 20, 1935 ~ July 27, 2019

Edna Powers August 20th, 1935 – July 27th, 2019 (Age 83).

Edna Powers passed away peacefully after a long illness in her home on Saturday, July 27th, 2019. Edna was born to Ralph and Lena Seal and was raised in Orlando, Ok. She attended Stillwater High school for her senior year after being severely burned at the age of 15 and being in the hospital for a year.

At the age of 17 Edna met her life partner of 65 years, John Powers. After settling in Blackwell, Oklahoma, they had three children, Terry Powers (deceased), Glenna Sue Barnard and Lynn Christine Fell (deceased). After a while she was able to fulfil her dream of going to nursing school and graduating at the top of her class. She worked for Blackwell General Hospital for several years and then did private duty nursing full time. She was highly recommended and respected as a nurse. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading and listing to music. She was very much a perfectionist and did not take insolence from anybody, but she also had a wicked sense of humor. She did not let a diagnosis of Lupus stop her from living her life and being there for her family and friends. As dementia set in, her husband John Powers never left her side as well as her dog, Tobby, whom she spoiled rotten.

She is survived by her husband John Powers, daughter Glenna Sue Barnard, five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1st in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell, with Rev. Ned Moerbe of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, or Humanity Hospice, in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
