A celebration of the life of Dr. Donna R. Powell, 80, of Guthrie, Oklahoma will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Noble Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Stevens officiating. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

Donna was born August 10, 1937 in Topeka, Kansas to parents, Virgil and Pauline King. She passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in Guthrie peacefully in her sleep. 

She was married to Robert Powell Sr. for 49 years until he passed away in October 2005. Together, Donna and Robert had two children, Robert Powell, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Nazareth, PA and Cheryl & Joe Litsch of Edmond, OK. Nanny and PaPa had four grandchildren: Lauren Joy Stricker and husband Shane of Frisco, TX, Brittan Litsch, Julianne Powell and Robert Powell, III.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Robert, both parent, and brothers, Harry King, Robert (Gene) King, John (Bud) King, James King and sister Mary King Louser.

Donna spent 29 years in the Guthrie Public School System from 1970 to 1999. She began her career as a 5th grade teacher and finished her career as the Assistant Superintendent for Federal Programs and Special Services in 1999. During her career Donna held several other positions in Special Education, School Psychology and Guidance Counseling. While working full-time she completed her Master's Degree in Special Education and her PhD in Psychology. Dr. Powell had a passion for educating children especially those with disabilities.

Donna was a member of many educational and civic groups and served on the board of directors of many organizations. She was an active member of Noble Avenue Baptist church since 1960 and taught Sunday School and sang in the Church Choir. Donna was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling with friends and family.
