Bill John Powell

October 2, 1930 ~ September 21, 2016

Bill John Powell was born in Jimtown on October 2, 1930 to Tom and Velma Powell, one of 10 wonderful children. He went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 in North Richland Hills, Texas.

During his lifetime, Bill was fortunate to meet the love of his life Betty Singletary and they were married on December 9, 1974 in Mesquite, Texas.

He was the proud owner of Powell’s Piano and Refinishing in Mesquite for over 20 years and received many accolades in his career. Bill was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale.

His family describes him as a hard worker who took great pride in everything he did in his life. He was a Dallas sports fanatic and loved to watch the games in his free time to cheer on his teams. Bill had an immense love for his family and was avid storyteller.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife; Betty Powell; son Tom Powell; daughter Rebecca Powell; parents Tom and Velma Powell; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his son Raymond Powell and wife Jerrilyn; step-daughter Debra Bailey and husband Michael; step-son Johnny Littlejohn and wife Alicia; sisters Elva Jean Caldwel and Betty Shugurt; brother Tommy Powell; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 26 at the Anderson-Clayton-Gonzalez Funeral Home Chapel in Mesquite. Interment followed at Laurel Oaks Cemetery in Balch Springs, Texas.
