Lovingly attended by his daughter and son, Bendell Powell, 89, of Midwest City, stepped into the presence of his Lord June 3, 2013. Born on October 12, 1923 in Canute, Oklahoma, to Maude and Clay Powell, he has been an Oklahoma resident all his life.
Bendell married Irene Jay - the love of his life - on February 12, 1942, and for the last 57 years of their 71 years together lived in Midwest City.
He was inducted into the US Army on February 18, 1943 and defended his country for 162 continual combat days in the South Pacific war theaters. S/Sgt Powell returned home in December, 1945.
He so loved the Lord and served the families of faith at Sooner Baptist Church, First Southern Baptist Church and Crest Baptist Church where his hugs greeted everyone! His 'hobby' was ever his work - from his years with Wilson Meat Company, Peerless Boiler Company through his civil service years as a boiler plant supervisor at TAFB. Bendell loved to work for his family! Heaven-on-earth for him was spending time in their Arkansas cabin, a true home away from home.
Bendell was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and six sisters.
He is survived by his wife Irene of the home, Sister Hazel Pierce of Arizona, son Benny and wife "C.J." of Midwest City, daughter Twyla Harkey and son-in-law Allen of Midwest City, six cherished grandchildren, and eleven treasured great grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. T
he family wishes to extend their deep gratitude to the caregivers who made it possible for Bendell and Irene to remain together in their home for so long and to the staff at Quality Care Hospice. He loved you all! Visitation is available now, and his family will be present to receive guests Thursday, June 6th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.
