Nov. 4, 1941 - Nov. 6, 2012

Sherry C. Potter, 71, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012.

Sherry was born on Nov. 4, 1941 in Seminole, OK to Melvin and Ruby Smith Kitchen. At the age of 4, Sherry moved to Tonkawa, OK. She attended Lincoln Elementary School and Tonkawa High School. While in her freshman year there, she sang in choral groups and entered the State Music contest in Stillwater, taking the only Superior rating in Vocals awarded that year. She moved to Ponca City at the age of 14 and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1959.

After getting married and raising her two children, Sherry graduated Suma com Laude from Northern Oklahoma College in 1973. While there she was a member of the Roustabouts, the choir and also performed in the school musicals.

Sherry then graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1975 with a Bachelors degree in Music Education. While in her senior year, she was selected as one of the three guest conductors for the O.S.U. Womens Choir. She was also a member of the gospel group, Everlasting Joy, performing in churches throughout Oklahoma and Kansas.

Sherry was active in many youth groups, youth choirs and bible school, as well as a Falls Creek
Counselor for many years as a member of the First Baptist Church in Ponca City. While living in Newton, KS, Sherry was the choir director for Emmanuel Baptist Church. After returning to Ponca City, she was the childrens choir director at Northeast Baptist Church.

Sherry retired from CONOCO as a Senior Property Analyst in 1994. Sherry loved karaoke and was an avid reader. She loved and enjoyed her friends, family and adored her grandchildren.

Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling Steve Kitchen.

Sherry is survived by her daughter Carrie Cantrell and her husband Bill of Ponca City son Lt. Col. Larry D. Harrison, II, U.S. Army. 8 Grandchildren Cara Cantrell, Abby Cantrell, Chase Cantrell, Casey Repine, Ben Harrison, Danielle Harrison, John Harrison and Kristina Harrison. Sherry also had 3 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012 at the American Legion Post 14, 407 W. South Ave., Ponca City, OK with Chaplain Larry Grant officiating.
