Barbara Joan (Ragan) Potter

Barbara Potter, 86 year old Darrouzett, Texas resident, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward, Oklahoma. A brief graveside services will also be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Darrouzett Cemetery in Darrouzett, Texas.

Barbara Joan (Ragan) Potter was born April 18, 1936 in Boise City, Oklahoma to John Lawrence and Edith Elizabeth (Chapman) Ragan. Barbara grew up in the Oklahoma panhandle and her family ran the Capital Hill Grocery. The family moved to Darrouzett, Texas in 1946. Barbara graduated from Darrouzett High School and was the Salutatorian of her graduating class in 1954. She was also elected as Miss DHS during high school. Barbara later became a Board Certified Cosmetologist from the Amarillo Academy of Hairdressing.

She was united in marriage to Steve Potter on December 4, 1961 in Clayton, New Mexico. They made their first home in Boise City, Oklahoma, before settling in Darrouzett where they spent the majority of their lives. Barbara was the owner and operator of Barbara's Beauty Boutique, where she and her other stylist claimed to "Curl up and Dye for you"!

Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church, the UMW, and the Senior Citizens Center of Darrouzett. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed time with special friends playing cards and telling stories. She loved sharing laughter and great times together.

She is survived by one son, Mark Potter and wife Lori of Munday, Texas; two daughters: Lori Freeman and husband Mark of Woodward, Shelley Carver and husband Kyle of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren: Drew Potter, Erik and Emily Potter all of Munday, Lexi and Josh Richardson of Edmond, Oklahoma, Stevanna Freeman, Jessalyn Freeman and fiance Kit Baker of Oklahoma City, Kedric and Callie Carver, Kensey and Bryant Moore of Lubbock, Texas; great-grandchildren: Zackary, Clayton, Bailey, Harley, Kristopher, Krislynn, Jett, Zoey, Blakely, Kenbry, Mavric; one brother, Johnny Ragan of Darrouzett, Texas; one sister, Christene Conners of Austin, Texas; many dear nieces and nephews including her sweetie Robin Rodriguez who took such great care of her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Steve Potter, brother-in-laws, Lyman and Duane Potter, sister-in-laws, Shirley Ragan and Judy Potter, niece Gwen Potter and great nephew Bobby Joe Knust.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Darrouzett Cemetery Fund or the Darrouzett Senior Citizens Center with the Billings Funeral Home, 1621 Downs Avenue, Woodward, OK. 73801 accepting the contributions.
