James Darrell Poteet Jr., longtime Agra/Tryon resident passed from this life on Saturday, September 12, 2020. He was born on July 18, 1954 in Cushing, OK to James Poteet Sr. and Joanne (Walker) Poteet.
James was raised in Agra and graduated from Agra High School. He enjoyed showing his duroc pigs and participating in FFA activities as a Chapter Officer. He was a skilled volleyball player and started on the 1972 Oklahoma State Volleyball Semi-Finals team for Agra.
James worked in the oilfield for Saber Drilling, Equal Energy and Red Cloud Drilling as a roughneck, driller, tool pusher and production foreman. James also worked as a truck driver. James enjoyed his dogs JoJo and Missy Mae, Sooner football, fishing, spending time with his grandkids, cooking, westerns, hunting, gardening, and travel. James was able to visit all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James Poteet and Joann Walker Poteet, and grandparents Johnny Walker, Eva Smith Walker, Floyd Poteet and Elizabeth Horton Poteet.
James is survived by his wife, Paula Dawn (Davis) Poteet of the home, daughter Anihtra Watkins and husband Brandon of Perkins, son Jameson Poteet of Grove, brother Michael Poteet and wife Judy of Agra, and sister Debbie Cooper and husband Chris of Cushing. James is also survived by five grandchildren: Hunter, Annelise and Scarlett Watkins of Perkins, and Chadwick and Aden Poteet of Grove.
