Carole Lynn Hooper Postelwait, 85, died on Feb.11, 2022, after a long battle with dementia. Carole was born on July 7, 1936, to Cicero and Thelma Hooper in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was baptized in 1948 and was a faithful believer all her life.
After Carole graduated from Abilene High School in 1954, she studied home economics at Abilene Christian College, graduating in 1958. She was the first in her family to graduate from college. Then, she started her first job in Coke County, Texas, as a home demonstration agent.
In 1959, Carole reconnected via letters and phone calls with Ralph Aldean Postelwait, who was serving in the U.S. Navy in Spain. Later on, a road trip with girlfriends in New England, Carole visited Al when he was stationed in Brunswick, Maine. They had a brief courtship and married on Oct. 7, 1961, in Abilene, Texas.
Al's Navy service took the couple to Bermuda where they welcomed twin girls, Lisa Lea and Lora Beth, in 1963. Then, the family moved to Iowa and Oklahoma when Al worked in education and agriculture. While in Enid, the family welcomed daughter Cara Laine in 1967. Career moves took the family to Bryan, Texas; Billings, Montana; and then back to Enid. Carole managed the couple's small business, Printing Impressions, for 12 years.
In retirement in College Station, Texas, Carole volunteered at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library, and she taught preschoolers in Bible class at the A&M Church of Christ. She enjoyed gardening, making scrapbooks for her family, working with family records, and baking her "famous" chocolate pie. Carole and Al celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2021.
Carole is survived by her husband, Al; daughters Lisa Postelwait of Oklahoma City, Lora Hutson [David] of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Cara Hale of The Colony, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren Taylor Isenberg, Makena and Bryn Hale, and Davis and Kate Hutson; sisters Kathy Griffin [Tom] of Memphis, Tennessee, and Connie Williamson of Eugene, Oregon; and by several dearly loved nieces and nephews. Carole was predeceased by her mother Thelma Hooper and sister Karen Billingsley.
Services will be held at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond, Oklahoma, on Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Carole's name to your chosen charity.
