Dr. Al Posey passed away on 13 January 2018, at age 81.
Born on a farm in Ringwood, Oklahoma, Al graduated from Enid High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Air Force to see more of the world than the annual "family camping trips" following the wheat harvests through the Dakotas allowed.
After serving in Japan as a dental tech, he was stationed at Offutt Air Base in Nebraska.
Al attended Omaha University and graduated from Creighton University Dental School in 1965. Most importantly, Al met Nebraska farm girl Ruth Nielsen, the love of his life for over 57 years.
Following a pediatric dental internship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Al practiced dentistry in Enid for 32 years. Al was awarded a Fellowship in the American College of Dentists, and received the Alumni Merit Award from Creighton University Dental School in 1988.
Al's many interests included flying, motorcycling, ranching, running, fishing and traveling the world. As a commercial and instrument rated pilot, Al performed several Angel Flights, dental mission trips, served as the president of the Flying Dentists and took his wife on a date to the Paris Air Show in 1987, in their single engine Bonanza!
As a marathon runner, Al reached his goal of a sub-three hour marathon at age 40. Al's love of motorcycling began delivering the Enid News and Eagle on an Indian Scout.
He traveled from Fairbanks to Key West and the Canadian Maritimes with family and friends on his Harley. But it was a Harley trip along the Talimena Drive at age 71 that forever kept him closer to home than he had become accustomed.
Al is survived by his loving wife Ruth; children (both Creighton grads) Sandra (Allyn) Baskerville of Edmond, and Richard (Deborah) Posey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and grandchildren Sarah, David, Anne, Ava and John Baskerville; and Clare and Alexander Posey. He is also survived by his brother Jack Posey of Fort Worth, TX.
Al was predeceased by his father and mother, Ray and Marie Posey of Jet, OK, and his sister Karen Posey Richardson of Seminole, OK.
A Memorial service is 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Baggerly Funeral Home, 930 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK.
