Norma Jean (Christian) Porwoll

Sept. 6, 1933 ~ Feb. 9, 2004

Norma Porwoll . . . our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away at home February 9, 2004, following her courageous battle with lung cancer.

Norma was born September 6, 1933, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Roy and Ollie Christian. She moved to Kern County when she was three years old and attended local schools. She and her husband, Ted, raised their three children in North Hollywood before moving to Lake Tahoe in 1969. Although they moved to Bakersfield in 1984, they continued spending their summers at the lake.

A member of the Hope Christian Church, Norma will be remembered for her great kindness, compassion, honesty and her willingness to help anyone in need. She dearly loved her family. An avid supporter of her grandchildren's activities, Norma attended numerous dance recitals, concerts and games for as long as she was able. She did not allow cancer to consume the joys she found in life and we marveled at her strength. We will forever remember her easy laugh, her beautiful blue eyes, her wisdon and her knack for always finding shortcuts.

Norma is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Christian and Ollie Clayton, her son, David Futch and grandsons, Ron and Jon Mongeau. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ted Porwoll, Sr.; daughter, Debra Welch and husband, Bill; son, Ted Porwoll, Jr. and wife, Debbie; 9 grandchildren, Donnie Futch, Tom Butcher, Jeff Raider, Grady and Kendra Trantham, Ted, Alyson, Mitchell and Amy Porwoll; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Carter, Mary Lou Jenkins and Carleen Turner; and brother, Bob Christian; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd. Pastor Bill Woods will officiate and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
