Wanda S Porton, Stroud resident, passed away with family by her side on Friday morning, November 18, 2016 in her residence, at the age of 80 years.
The daughter of Loaryne Everett and Beulah Margaret Buchanan, Wanda was born on June 13, 1936 in Broken Bow. She was number 4 out of ten children; she had six sisters and three brothers.
At the age of 16 she met and married Wayne Burtram Worthy on October 4, 1952. From this union came five children, Loaryne Sue Walls, Mona Jane Armstrong, Sallae Anne Posey, Joe Wayne Worthy and Gaye Lynne Kirk.
In 1965, they decided to move to Stroud and make their home. When Gaye was old enough to go to kindergarten, Wanda went to work at the Stroud Hospital where she came to be a CNA. She helped care for the sick, helped deliver babies, and wipe away hurts and tears. By doing this and living her life by example, she never dreamed that her career would have such an impact on her family, all her daughters became nurses. Her son became a truck driver and mechanic like his dad.
Time passed! while living in southeastern Oklahoma, working as a home health aide, she met and married John Porton. They resided in Idabel, Oklahoma until his death. She then moved back to Stroud to be with her kids, thirteen grandkids and nineteen great-grandkids.
She will always be known as being a very good cook, a master at baking, a seamstress and having the time to play a card or board game or two, as well as taking her turn at swinging on the swing. And last but not least, a good sense of humor with that many kids, how could she not. She is very much loved and will be sorely missed by the ones she left behind.
Survivors include four daughters, Lorrie Walls and her friend Gary Joiner of Stroud, Mona J. Armstrong of Stroud, Sallae Posey and her husband Guy of Stillwater and Gaye Kirk of Stroud; one son, Joe Worthy and his wife Linnie of Milfay; grandchildren, Julie Walls of Stroud, Jennifer and Joe Blackard of Idabel, Stanley Magby of Idabel, Erin and Shaun Jackson of Stillwater, Shadra Posey of Stillwater, Travis Posey of Stillwater, Joseph Whittington of Tulsa, Anthoney and Amy Worthy of Cassville, Missouri, Meagan Worthy of Milfay, Shayna and Chris Vaughan of Oklahoma City and Kyle Kirk of Stroud; nineteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
In addition to her parents and two husband's, Wanda was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and two grandsons, Chalin Worthy and Christopher Gardner.
Graveside services will be Monday, November 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Wayne Worthy Cemetery at the home place in Stroud.
