Paul Alan Porter died June 28, 2017 from complications associated with his severe COPD. His service will be held at Mercer-Adams on Sunday, July 16 at 2pm, followed by a celebration of his life at the Hefner Village clubhouse at 4pm.
Paul was born in Portland, Oregon on February 15, 1949. Due to his father's service in the Air Force, the family moved often during Paul's childhood, and he learned early how to make new friends wherever he went. He lived in Redding, CA; Colorado Springs, CO; Wiesbaden, Germany; Montgomery, AL; Palos Verdes, CA; Redlands, CA; Stillwater, OK; and Springfield, VA. Paul moved back to Stillwater in 1967 to attend OSU and remained a staunch supporter of the Cowboys for life.
He was a gifted CPA who loved his work. He was also an avid gambler who enjoyed the horse races and the slots and blackjack tables in Reno, Las Vegas, and Tunica alike. He was a wine enthusiast, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Brenda, to, among other places, Banff, Canada; Alaska; Hawaii; and California wine country.
Preceded in death by his mother, Barbra; father, LeRoy; aunt, Rosemary; uncle, Ed; and cousin Scott, Paul is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda; daughter, Shannon and significant other, Leslie; younger sister, Trudy, and brother-in-law, Ernie; cousins Lynn; Jon and wife, Tricia; Steve and wife, Kathi; step-brother Jeff; as well as countless close friends.
His family would like to say a special thank you to his longtime doctors, Jess Armor, who helped Paul beat lung cancer twice with the treasured help of Paul's niece, Ellen Wardlaw, RN, and Maroun Tawk, his pulmonologist, all of whom had a hand in prolonging Paul's life, as well as Dr. Dernaika and the wonderful nurses and staff of the Mercy ICU who tried to save it.
The loss felt at Paul's death is profound, and he will be deeply missed. May his soul, which touched so many, rest in peace.
