Okmulgee - Darlene (Sampson) Polk gained her heavenly wings on Saturday, April 15, 2023, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years. Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Wadley’s Funeral Chapel, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Darlene was born December 8, 1937, in Rosedale, Oklahoma to Bennie and Lu’Ella (Payton) Sampson. She was a firecracker! You never knew what she might say or do next. Darlene didn’t mind laughing with you or at you, but most of all she LOVED with her whole heart. She always put others before herself, especially her loved ones. Darlene worked at Ruby’s Inn in Purcell, OK, for several years. She also served her community by working at local daycares and helping families maintain their homes. Darlene loved our Lord and Savior, and attended First Baptist Church on Santa Fe in Purcell, where she served in various tasks. During her past-time, she enjoyed being with her family and attending her great grandchildren’s sporting events and watching her stories on TV.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Lu’Ella Sampson; her husband, Raymond Polk; her three sisters, Cleo, Gloria Ann, Velma; her brother, Jesse; and her eldest son, Theodore.
Survivors include her 3 children, Sharon Love of Okmulgee, OK, Jane Polk of Lexington, OK, and Benny Polk of Purcell, OK; 2 sisters, Wilma Jackson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Vern Payton of Oklahoma City, OK; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews; her 2 best friends, Levern Moore and Vanilia Love; and many other relatives and friends.
