Herman Junior Poeling was born January 1, 1931, to Herman Joseph and Edna Augusta Poeling in Arcadia, Oklahoma. He departed this life February 18, 2024 at the age of 93.
He was raised on the farm where he would learn the value of hard work. He later received his bachelor’s degree from Temple University. On August 19, 1960, Herman Junior Poeling and Phebe Tuttle were united in marriage. From this union were born four children, Cathie, Teresa, Carla, and Buddy.
He worked in construction for many years and played and produced music as well. He wrote numerous songs over the years and was inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame. He was also an extra in the movie “The Outsiders”.
Herman had many other interests as well, he enjoyed gardening, watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the Kansas City Chiefs football team play. He loved working with kids, and woodworking. But most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Phebe Poeling; four children, Cathie Bales, Teresa Poeling, Carla Beach and husband Mark, Herman C. “Buddy” Poeling; grandchildren, Christina Hammond, Michael Bales and wife Lisa, Katy Herman and husband Chad, Cody Beach, and Jessica Seaton; six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, two sisters, and great grandson Cash Tyler Herman.
