Born on July 23, 1942, in Tucson, Arizona, to William Carrell and Maudie Mae (Moon) Pittman, Dayton grew up in Gould, Oklahoma, and graduated from Gould High School in 1960.

Dayton proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 1961 to 1965, achieving the rank of E-5 Petty Officer 2nd Class Radar Man spending time aboard the two destroyers, USS Samuel N. It was there that he met Norma Jean Gregory. The two were married on January 24, 1970. To this union was born two sons, Todd and James. The couple shared over 54 years of marriage.

Raised in the Methodist faith, Dayton was a man of strong values. He was an avid fan of college football, especially the OU Sooners, a team he often had a love/ hate for. He also enjoyed playing blackjack and video poker.

From 1980 to 1992, Dayton and Norma owned and operated Willard’s Day and Night, where they were the first in the area to offer broasted chicken. Dayton also enjoyed team roping with his sons and was deeply involved in their activities, supporting them in FFA and athletics. He was a proud breeder of white Brahman cattle and had also raised horses.

Above all, Dayton cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. He will be remembered as a loyal, independent man with a big heart, always ready to offer love and support to those closest to him.
