Mary Alice Pierson, 74, of Nowata, died at 6:15 P.M. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the AMG Specialty Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A Celebration of Life service was held at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlesville. Services and cremation are under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mrs. Pierson was born in Newport, Rhode Island on January 19, 1939 the daughter of Vito D. and Dora (Bolduc) Pinto. She grew up and received her education in Newport and she was married to Thomas Joseph Pierson on June 21, 1961 at the St. Mary's Church in Newport (the oldest Catholic church in Rhode Island). They made their home in various locations around the world during Mr. Pierson's career with the United States Navy, but always maintained a family home in Columbus, Kansas. In Columbus she had worked as a waitress and was also a seamstress at the Big Smith Overall & Jeans factory in Columbus.
Mr. Pierson retired from the Navy in 1979 at which time Mrs. Pierson received a certificate from the Secretary of the Navy commending her for her support of her husband's service. In 1979 they made their home in Houston, Texas while he was employed with BP Amoco until his second retirement. In 1995 Mr. and Mrs. Pierson moved to Nowata, Oklahoma to make their home. She was a member of the Catholic faith, had an outgoing personality which made everyone that met her love her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Pierson of Nowata, one son, Joseph Alan Pierson and wife Mandy of Fischer, Texas, two sisters, Pauline Anderson of Leesburg, Florida and Eileen McCann of West Milford, N.J., one brother, Robert Pinto of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and two grandchildren, Alexandria Pierson and David Pierson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vito and Dora from Newport, R.I., a sister, Claire Judge from West Peabody, Mass., and a brother, Roy Pinto from Newport, R.I.
