Richard Maurice "Rick" Phalen, 59, of Edmond, OK., formerly of Atwood, Ill., died at 5:11 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at the VA Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Ok.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2005 at the Lake Fork United Church of Christ, Atwood, with the Rev. Conrad Heisner officiating.
Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2005 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, and one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial was in the Lake Fork Cemetery, rural Atwood.
Mr. Phalen was born on December 12, 1945 in Atwood, a son of Frances and Vera Quick Phalen.
He is survived by his wife, Sondra; son, Jeff Phalen of Shelbyville, Ky.; daughter, Tami Phalen of St. Louis, Mo.; grandsons Matson Phalen, Zackary Soliz and Kavin Norris; and a brother, Kent Phalen of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Phalen.
Mr. Phalen graduated from Atwood-Hammond High School and received his BA degree from the University of Illinois. He served in the United States Air Force. He worked in sales and was the director of the American Racing Pigeons organization.
