Norma Jo (Moses) Peters

Feb. 24, 1926 ~ Oct. 10, 2005

A memorial service for Norma Jo Peters, 79, of Billings, Mont., who died Oct. 10, 2005 in Billings will be held at a later date. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

She was born Feb. 24, 1926 in Lexington, the daughter of Leon T. and Lora (Williams) Moses. After her father’s sudden death, when Jo was just nine months old, she and her brother, Willis, were reared by their mother with the help of Aunt Esther and their large extended family. After her mother married Earl W. Moses when Mrs. Peters was 13, the family moved to Douglas, Ill.

Mrs. Peters attended Oklahoma schools and graduated from Yates City (Ill.) High School in 1944 and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill., in 1947.

Mrs. Peters married John E. Peters and together they reared two sons, Richard and Jim. The family followed the oil patch, living in Liberal, Kan., western North Dakota, Glendive and Dillon, Mont., and Casper, Wyo. When their sons were reared, they lived in Colorado, Venezuela and Jackson, Miss., returning to Oklahoma in the early 1970s where they lived for 30 years. They moved to Billings in the summer of 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather; brother and a granddaughter, Angela Rae Peters.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, John; two sons, Richard Peters of Biloxi, Miss., and Jim Peters and his wife, Ann, of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.
