Laura Anne Pechacek (Manderscheid) died peacefully in her home in Norman, Oklahoma on July 18th, 2016, after a courageous fight with ovarian cancer.
Laura is survived by her husband Steve, daughter Janell, son Dan, sister Jane Manderscheid-Miller (Fletcher Miller), and brothers David Manderscheid (Susan Lawrence) and Paul Manderscheid. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Lester Manderscheid.
Laura was born in East Lansing, Michigan on October 25th, 1959. As a child she participated in Girl Scouts, and as a teenager she participated in high school musicals. She was born into a Michigan State University family, but forged her own path by going to Central Michigan University. There she met the love of her life, Steve Pechacek, over pork chops in the school cafeteria. They were married on August 11th, 1979 in East Lansing. Laura was a member of the first graduating class to receive a Management Information Systems degree from CMU. In 1981, she and Steve moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where she pursued a career at Seagate Technology. Laura was a dedicated worker, beloved and respected by her many coworkers in her 35 years with the company. She ended her career as a Senior Systems Analyst, and was a member of the Data Processing Management Association. In 1991, Laura and her family became founding members of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church when they answered the call for all Catholics interested in starting a church on Norman's west side to come to a mass at the Sheraton Hotel. She taught Religious Education in her home, and later in the church when it was built. She enjoyed relaxing through yoga by taking advanced classes around Norman and practicing at home. Laura's greatest love and commitment was reserved for her family. In 1986, she gave birth to her daughter Janell, and in 1988 to her son Dan. She was a kind and loving mother and wife, who was always supportive through hard times and full of joyous laughter in the happy times. In September 2015, she became a warrior against ovarian cancer, fighting and laughing with her family until passing peacefully with them in her home.
