Roxie Gertrude (Davis) Payne

Oct. 31, 1894 ~ 1964

Roxie Gertrude Payne, 69, a resident of near Wiley since 1947, died at 11 a.m., Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital in Lamar.

Death followed a short illness.

Mrs. Payne was born near Lehigh Indian Territory, Okla., Oct. 31, 1894, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John C. Davis. She was married to Logan Payne on Dec. 25, 1909, in Middleberg, Grady Co., Okla. He preceded her in death in 1953.

She was a member of the Baptist Church in Canon City and the Order of the Eastern Star, Lamar Chapter No. 112.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Zola Reyher of Lamar; Mrs. Mildred Shipp of Shawnee, Okla., and Mrs. Wilma G. Smith, Annadale, Va.

Three brothers, Theodore Davis of Orange, Tex., and Joel Davis of Fort Worth, Tex., and E. D. Davis of Craig also survive as do two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Blevens of Craig and Mrs. Daisy Chandler of Hayden, Colo.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday in the Church of the Brethren in Wiley with Rev. Stanley Keller officiating.

Burial will be in the Wiley Cemetery.

Duggan-Dolsen Mortuary of Lamar is in charge of arrangements.

Roxie G. Payne

Funeral services for Roxie G. Payne were held in the Church of the Brethren in Wiley, June 16, 1964. The Rev. Stanley Keller officiated at the morning services with Duggan-Dolsen Mortuary of Lamar in charge of arrangements.

Don Hardy, Dale Ellenberger, Bernard Orr, and Dale Cadwallader accompanied by Mrs. Dale Ellenberger provided the music.

Casket bearers were Don Falconburg, Harold Smith, R. W. Esgar, Robert Colvin, Ellwin McVicker, and Gideon Semens.

Burial followed in the Wiley Cemetery. Ushers for the service were Loren Reyher and Raymond McKitrick. The Wiley Birthday Club attended in a group.

Born October 31, 1894, Mrs. Payne died June 14, 1964, at the age of 69 years, seven months and 14 days.
