Kirk William Payne

Kirk William Payne
November 13, 1963 ~ January 27, 2019

Kirk William Payne, 55, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, left this life surrounded by family members on Sunday, January 27, 2019 after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer.

Kirk was born to Carol Payne and the late Kenneth Payne on November 13, 1963 in Great Falls, Montana. With his father serving in the Air Force, Kirk relocated to Japan and Kansas before settling into Altus, Oklahoma at the age of six years old. In 1985, Kirk relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University, where he enjoyed the opportunities to earn two separate master's degrees and acquired an eclectic knowledge comprised of almost all subjects offered by the university. Stillwater has been Kirk's home ever since.

When not working at Accurate Labs, Kirk explored his passion of rebuilding cars to not only restore them, but to also discover the engine's true potential, finding solace in driving them fast. With his passion of cars, Kirk was also able to assist numerous family members and friends with any car questions or troubles, often leaning his expertise in the car-buying process. In addition, Kirk enjoyed nature, frequently seeking out opportunities to participate in hiking, camping, or backpacking adventures. As the world woke, Kirk could be found gazing at peaceful, beautiful sunrises, taking the time to mediate or practice yoga. Kirk had a kind, gentle soul that believed in the life of all things, no matter the size.

Kirk is survived by his mother, Carol Payne of Altus, OK.; brother, Kendall Payne of Altus, OK.; niece, Bailea (Jeff) Scanlon of Canton, MI.; nephew, Evan Kosbau of Mangum, OK.; and countless family members in the state of Minnesota. Kirk was fiercely loved by his work family and countless friends, who, in truth, were much like family to him. Kirk loved the people in his life and would protect them at any opportunity.

Kirk is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Payne; sister, Kim Lisa Kosbau; aunts and uncles, Florence & Thomas Briese and Luella & Wesley Johnson; and beloved cat, Vortex. Several paternal family members also preceded Kirk in death.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks and gratitude to the employees of Accurate Labs, Stillwater Cancer Center, and Karmen Legacy Hospice, as well as close friends, for the care and support shown to Kirk.
