Barton was born on October 31, 1929 on the family farm to Charles and May Payne and died on January 14, 2022 in Enid.
He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Carrier High School. Barton then served in the U.S. Army during Korea Conflict. Upon his discharge, he returned to Enid and married Thelma Agan on November 7, 1956 in Enid and they made their home on the family farm. Barton worked for Bond Bakery as a baker and truck driver, retiring in 1977. He was a farmer his entire life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; three children, Jerry and Jimmy Payne, and Debbie Martin; four brothers and an infant brother and sister.
Barton is survived by his daughter, Diana Cummins; grandchildren, Donnie (Amanda) Payne and Dana (Kris) Southwick; great grandchildren, Jordan and Maci Carter and Brianna and Caleb Payne; brother, Glen Payne; sisters, Lucy Webster, Mergie Cochran, and Karen Theilen; nieces and nephews.
